On the other side, it looks good and it would solve the problem of having to carry my external Magic Keyboard with me.

Also, currently I don’t have the need to take my iPad Pro wherever I go (because I don’t go to a lot of places during isolation). Talking about trackpads and external accessories: Do I consider to get the new Magic Keyboard for the iPad Pro? Yes and No! The Medium text editor is not meant to use with your fingersīut like I’ve said, once you’ve connected a mouse or use a trackpad, the problem is gone. It’s such a pain to edit the headline format, insert links and bold & un-bold words with using your fingers only, that it almost forced me to give up my iPad. Which is a real pain to use if you don’t have a mouse or a trackpad, by the way. Meaning, when I need to insert any link, I use the option to do this in the word processor of the Medium website. Because as a markdown text editor, your texts gets cluttered easily, when you decide to insert links, pictures and more. However, when you consider editing documents and need to incorporate lots of links and pictures/graphics, iA Writer might not be the right choice for you. It’s an app to focus on writing, not more not less.įor this sole purpose it’s one of the best apps on the market and my preferred choice. However, iA Writer is not a Word Processor. There’s an iCloud sync, if you need to make or edit notes on other devices and some setting regarding the writing experience. No clutter, no distractions and exactly what you need to get some heavy writing done. This is an app which puts the focus on writing and writing only. This is probably the single-most reason why I don’t think that Word is the best app to do some text processing on the iPad and the reason I look into other apps at the moment. However, in Word on the iPad, there’s no function to create or at least edit a table of contents of a document. On a desktop, it’s a matter of clicks, in terms of editing the headlines and let Word do the rest of the work. Wrong! As I write eBooks as a ghostwriter and do copywriting, I sometimes need to edit a table of contents for a longer document. And it makes sense in some regards because you simply don’t need to edit the documents the way you need to edit them on a desktop system, right?

This takes me to one of the problems with writing on an iPad, because while you’re used to have a full-fledged options panel in Word on your Mac or Windows, on an iPad you don’t get this many options to choose from. WordĬurrently, I’m still using Word as my main text editing software, however as my dissatisfaction with it keeps growing, I look more often than not into new alternatives. Now, let’s focus on what applications I use to achieve my goals and what things you may know about using them on an iPad. Meaning, it’s nothing too crazy like writing an entire novel on my iPad but it’s also no taking notes in university (hint: it’s perfect for that). Besides from that, I write personal articles for Medium and sometimes help friends with texts. In terms of actual writing work I do on my iPad, it mainly consists of ghostwriting eBooks and doing copywriting on UpWork.

Last but not least, I also rely on Bose NC700 headphones to get my focus going.

That’s the reason I want to give you some insights why I chose an iPad Pro to do my writing work on, what apps I use and what quirks you should consider, when you think about using an iPad for writing work.įirst of all, my hardware setup consists of the mentioned iPad Pro 2018 11” with an original Magic Keyboard for the Mac and lately I got a Logitech MX Anywhere 2S ( finally, but I’ll come to that). And despite the small screen size and some set-up problems in the beginning, it performs better than initially expected.
